       Inpatient Pharmacy Services (33 FTEs)

The Inpatient Pharmacy Department provides comprehensive (24 hours a day, seven days per week) pharmacy services to patients receiving treatment at UPHSM including Home Infusion Services and the Infusion Service located in the Emergency Department.  These services include the purchasing, stocking and dispensing of all drug products, evaluation of medication use and dosing on an individual basis for each patient, consultation with the physician or nurse regarding appropriate plan of medication therapy, family and patient education/counseling, implementing and helping to evaluate cost containment or medication therapy initiatives of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and pharmacy/medical/nursing student education.


A comprehensive IV additive service (certified by The Joint Commission) is provided including Total Parenteral Nutrition and chemotherapy preparation. An automated dispensing system for provision of routine medications in a unit dose package allows for more immediate access to medication doses after order entry. Assessment and provision of patient needs for pharmaceutical care are initiated with patient contact and nursing and medical staff consultation. The pharmacy takes a pro-active role in the areas of pharmacokinetics, nutrition, management of the antimicrobial restriction program, surgical and medical intensive care, and neonatology.


      Outpatient Pharmacy Services (2.6 FTEs)

The Outpatient Pharmacy provides prescription services primarily to UPHSM employees and their immediate families as well as to ambulatory patients who receive their medical care at UPHSM.  Outpatient Pharmacy hours are 8:30 am through 5:00 pm (closed daily for lunch from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm), Monday through Thursday for employees and discharged patients. 


     Oncology Infusion Center (2.0 FTEs)


    The Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy located in the Peninsula Medical Center provides   
    oversight of all oncology-related infusions performed at the Hematology/Medical Oncology
   Clinic Infusion Center.  Oncology Infusion Center Pharmacy hours are 8:00 am through 4:30
   pm, Monday through Friday for Hematology/Medical Oncology Clinic Infusion Center
